The People

The People of Benlunar are the lifeblood of the town. Whether they run a market stall, look after the Stave Church or run the local inn, everyone has their role. They make Benlunar a functioning community and without them it would just be a pile of wood and rocks. Here you can learn a bit more about the characters that inhabit this beautiful mountain town.

Brother Thomas

Brother Thomas arrived in Benlunar a few years ago and instantly became interested in the workings of the Stave Church. Having proved himself to be an excellent study in the stories and lessons of the Many Books, he quickly ascended to Church Brother. It’s said that he worked so hard in those early days, it was almost like he was compensating for all the time he had never been there! Everyone knows that Brother Thomas will be there for you to talk to whenever you need him to be. He has learnt many things and often tells stories that don’t seem to come from the pages of his books.

Polly and Edward Lausanne

The long suffering parents of Lilian! In truth, there could not be a better pair for managing the whims and acts of their tearaway offspring. Edward is firm but patient. Polly is kind and generous. Neither of them suffer fools gladly. Together they have created a wonderful home but they always knew that it would never be enough for their daughter. Once every few generations, a child is born in Benlunar who seems to be a bigger fish than this little pond can accommodate. They are the town engineers, which means that they are the first people called whenever there is damage or building projects that need completing.

Ortan Strommer

Ortan is the town trapper. This means that whenever the community has a problem that involves wildlife, Ortan is the one they call. Sheep being hounded by wolves? No problem. Owls made a nest in your attic? Easy. He can usually be found at home or in the corner of the inn with his large dog, Silky. He was born and raised in Benlunar, but spent a few years away in his youth. He doesn’t talk much about where he went. All people know is that when he came back he seemed different and animals behaved strangely around him.

Jacob Sterkarm

Jacob is Benlunar’s blacksmith. Townsfolk hire him and his son Varne for all their metal working needs. Jacob’s father taught him everything he knows and Jacob will tell everyone who will listen that it was his great grandfather that wrought the iron in the Benlunar main gates. Sometimes tourists have asked him to make them bespoke pieces that they can take home. Few blacksmiths can match his skill in this part of the world. His strangest creation? Probably a helmet shaped like a pig’s head.

Lilian Lausanne

Lilian is a 13 year-old girl who lives with her parents down by the river. She has red hair and a fiery personality to match. A few week ago she got into trouble for painting the Padda Stone, but luckily she’s been keeping out of trouble since then. She attends the local school (sometimes) and enjoys playing with her friend Kilde. She always seems to be hungry and has been known to eat 3 whole pies in one sitting.

Cromwell Attorcop

Cromwell Attorcop has actually been visiting Benlunar for many years. He is said to be a wise, older man with familial connections to Benlunar. He usually lives in the city of Freedos but visits Benlunar once every 2 or 3 years. He is tall with a bald head, beard and a penchant for black clothes. Some say he works for the Empress herself, while others say he meddles in the dark arts. Could this be the same Cromwell that spent his Summer’s in Benlunar all those years ago, climbing the mountain every day and single-handedly getting rid of the dangerous Ryke family? No… It couldn’t be. They say that boy could wield the power of the moon. What ever that means!

Kilde Vichas

Kilde is Lilian’s age, but seems so much more mature! This could be because he grew up with just his mother after his father died at war. The extra responsibilities must have moulded him into the gentle, hardworking young man he is today. Some say Lilian is a bad influence on him, but they weren’t there when Kilde convinced her to steel a whole roast from the Fox & Octopus Inn!

Xander and Liny

Much like cheese and fruit, these two go together perfectly. They run the famous Fox & Octopus Inn. Xander is in charge of the food and drinks and Liny runs the books. The Inn is of course packed with locals every night and the rooms upstairs are the first to go when tourists visit the town. No one really knows how much money these two have, but that massive blue vase they just bought for the mantle looks very expensive…

Ina Thoreson

Mrs Thoreson is a much respected Benlunar elder. She lives in the large house at the top of the market square, on the path towards the mountain, with her butler, Mr Stepson. She is rarely seen but has been known to employ strange and even mystical methods when solving problems. In her youth she was a pioneer of the Benlunar tourism plan which basically saved Benlunar from disappearing. Little is known about her extended family, but there are rumours of her having a sister in Freedos.

Kissandra Kirkhammer

An infamous assassin from Freedos. Kissandra learned her craft as a teenager when she was sent behind enemy lines as a spy. She has never had what people would call a family, but she has her brothers and sisters of Bana House whom she protects with her life and would never betray as long as she breathes air. Few know it, but it was Kissandra who murdered Lord Lincoln’s sister, and it was Lord Lincoln who ordered the hit…
